Transit 125 Years Graphic 168 x 106The Phoenix Public Transit Department has published its annual report on its website.

The annual report provides a snapshot of the $243.7 million budget for the services operated by the city of Phoenix, including how funds are spent for bus services, Dial-a-Ride, and light rail, as well as major capital projects such as the refurbishment of Phoenix Central Station and opening of both the Happy Valley/I-17 and 27th Ave./Baseline Rd. Park-and-Rides.  Most of the funding for public transit services in Phoenix comes from a 4/10ths of a cent sales tax approved by voters in 2000.

Additionally, the report highlights how well Phoenix Public Transit is doing on several benchmarks important to measuring effectiveness of transit service, such as annual boardings, passenger boardings per mile, revenue recovery rates from passenger fares and on-time performance arriving at bus stops.

“By putting this information online in an easy-to-read format, residents can see what their tax dollars are spent on, and how the vital transit services for our city are provided,” said Public Transit Director Neal Young.

Highlights from the 2011-12 annual report include:

More than 37 million passenger boardings, an increase of over 1 million boardings from the previous year.

  • 94 percent on-time performance for local bus system-wide, maintained from the prior year.
  • Profiles of several significant passenger facility projects, including the refurbishment of Phoenix’s main transit hub, Central Station; and the opening of the 27th Ave./Baseline Rd. Park-and-Ride with new RAPID™ service.
