Phoenix Public Transit and Aviation Departments win accolades from WTS
The Phoenix Public Transit and Aviation Departments were recognized by the Phoenix chapter of WTS on March 2, when the City of Phoenix was named “Employer of the Year” by the group. WTS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the field of transportation.
“I’m proud that our city has been honored for its longstanding efforts to support women across the organization, especially in its transportation services,” said Phoenix City Manager David Cavazos. “The work that our Aviation and Public Transit departments do is not only important to our residents, it’s important to the entire region.”
The Phoenix Public Transit and Aviation Departments together run more than 76 million passenger trips annually and invest more than $478 million in transportation operations and personnel each year. The city of Phoenix as an organization has more than 14,000 employees, and has been recognized many times for its effective management, winning the Carl Bertelsmann Award for best-run city in the world; Phoenix was also named an All-American City five times by the National Civic League.
