Phoenix Police Academy
Commander Gail Kavanagh oversees all Phoenix based training that is conducted at the Training Academy. The Training Academy is made up of numerous specialized training units to include; the Curriculum Development Unit, Field Training Unit, Physical Fitness Unit, and Training Records Section; Firearms Unit, Tactical Training Unit and the Emergency Vehicle Operations Center.
All of these units with their combined subject matter expertise and knowledge work to provide specialized training and support for all of the Police Department employees. Police Recruits and sworn personnel participate in many hours of training both designed and facilitated at the Training Academy.
Arizona Law Enforcement Academy
In an on going partnership between the Phoenix Training Academy and the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy (ALEA) Police Recruits from around the state participate in a rigorous 19 week 665 hour training program. Commander Harry Markley along with a staff of dedicated Lieutenants, Sergeants and Officers from Police Departments around the state train the recruits in various areas to include: communication skills, firearms, defensive tactics, report writing and driving. This group of ALEA staff and instructors work directly with the recruit’s to produce quality Police Officers for our community.
