Arts and Social Change Project

Evaluation Criteria

Applications are evaluated and ranked by panelists using the criteria listed below.

Because your application will compete with other proposals, be sure to address as many points under each criterion as possible in your application.

The grant review panel will be assigning a ranking to each criterion category according to the degree to which the project responds to the subcriteria.

Artistic Merit

  • Qualifications, background and experience of the artists/ consultants involved
  • Effective use of the artists/consultants' skills in the project

Planning

  • Relationship between the organization's mission and goals, and the project's goals and activities.
  • Clearly defined relationship between the artist(s) and all partners involved in the project
  • Shared ownership and responsibilities of all partners in a collaborative project
  • Strong planning for logistics of the project
  • Effective project evaluation plan

Budget

  • Appropriateness of the project costs to the services provided and the number of participants in the project
  • Financial commitment from the organization and/or community supporting the organization
  • Balanced and accurate budget

Ability to Complete Project

  • Available resources and expertise to administer the project
  • Success of past projects

Public Value

  • Serves "special populations" (such as youth at risk, victims of abuse, seniors, homeless, people with disabilities, etc.)
  • Addresses a social issue in the community
  • Supports prevention/intervention program
  • Arts activity used as a means to address social service goals and objectives specific to the participants or the social service organization
  • Supports collaboration between social service provider or community-based organizations with artists and/or arts organizations
  • Expands artist's/arts organization's outreach activities
  • Serves community by providing access or accessibility services for audiences (ASL, audio description, assistive listening, braille, captioning, etc.)
