ELECTION DIVISION

 

Elections Services (602) 261-8683
  • Conducts regularly scheduled Mayor and Council elections every odd numbered year.
  • Provides candidate information to citizens interested in running for City elected office.
  • Conducts all special City elections as required by citizen initiative or by Council order.
  • Tracks and enforces filing of required candidate and political committee campaign finance reports.
  • Manages the “Vote-by-Mail Program” and maintains a permanent notification list for voters wishing to receive early ballots prior to each Election.

  • The City of Phoenix is the second largest election jurisdiction in the state with almost 500,000 registered voters.
  • Conducted 8 elections between September 1999 and March 2002.
  • Conducted 20 regular, runoff and special elections in the past 10 years.

  • Filed 390 campaign finance
    reports in 2001.

Initiative, Referendum and Recall Petition Services

  • Provides information to citizens regarding the initiative, referendum and recall petition process.
  • Accepts applications and other legal documents for the petition process
  • Verifies signatures and certifies sufficiency or insufficiency of all such petitions.

  • Verified initiative petitions containing over 32,000 signatures in 2000.
Annexations (602) 262-6837
  • Handles citizen inquiries and requests regarding the annexation process.
  • Conducts annexations in accordance with State law and initiates public notices and Council actions to effectuate annexations.
  • Communicates and coordinates with City departments to ensure that annexed areas receive proper City services.

  • Annexed 18 areas in FY 2000-01 encompassing
    1.2 square miles and $258,000 in assessed
    valuation.
Property Records (602) 262-6878
  • Maintains property ownership records including legal descriptions, lot sizes, easements, dedications, addresses and ownership for all properties in Phoenix.
  • Records all Phoenix real estate transfers as recorded with the Maricopa County Recorder’s office.
  • Provides legal description and book, map and parcel information on Phoenix building permits.
  • Verifies property owners in violation of the property maintenance ordinance and certifies court related documents.

  • Handled over 35,000 contacts with the public in FY 2000-01.
  • Posted over 70,000 parcels in FY 2000-01.

  • Operates a citizen information hotline for city emergency situations.
  • Provides accurate public safety information to the public.
