Development Plans and Drawings
When completed, the expansion will provide a spacious, high-tech and client-friendly facility with approximately 900,000 square feet of rentable space.
So that the Phoenix Convention Center can remain open for convention business without losing any rentable space throughout the expansion, the project is being completed in phases. As a result:
- existing facilities are not removed until replacement space has been built and opened and
- construction does not occur within a building clients are occupying.
Phase One: Four new levels of convention center currently rising on the 2.5-acre site between Hyatt Regency Phoenix and Phoenix Convention Center North. A total of 157,000 square feet of new meeting and exhibition space. Opened for groups July 2006.
Phase Two: Demolish/replace existing Phoenix Convention Center North with another four levels of new convention center that connect to Phase One at two levels. A total of 590,000 square feet of new meeting and exhibition space. Construction 2006-2008.
During the expansion, the existing South convention center building will be established as a separate, self-contained building with interior upgrades to match the look and quality of the new West and North convention center buildings. Construction between December 2005 and 2008.
The South building remains open for business, with its 82,000 square feet of exhibition space, 33,280 square feet of meeting space and 28,000 square foot ballroom.
