Modeled after the nationally recognized Homeless Court in San Diego, California, the Maricopa County Regional Homeless Court was established to resolve outstanding misdemeanor warrants for homeless individuals demonstrating a significant commitment to ending their homeless lifestyle.

The Regional Homeless Court was started in early 2006 by Tempe and Phoenix Municipal Courts along with six community based transitional program providers. There are now over 16 participating program providers. By design, defendants can only be referred to the Homeless Court by one of the participating programs after they have completed a rigorous transitional program. Defendants must also have a qualifying misdemeanor offense and no history of violence. Once the defendant's case is screened and determined eligible for the Homeless Court, the typical sentence imposed is community service for the amount of time the defendant participated in the transitional program.

The Regional Homeless Court is presided over by the Honorable Kevin Kane and is held the third Tuesday of every month at 1:30 p.m. at the Success Center (204 S. 12th Ave., Phoenix, Arizona).
