The city-owned Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC), is a 28-acre urban research park planned for six million sq. ft. of biomedical related research, laboratory, and academic facilities. Present tenants include:
TGen/IGC Headquarters
- The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) and the International Genomics Consortium (IGC) headquarters opened in December 2004 is a $46 million, six-story, 170,000 sq. foot research facility.
- The National Institue of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) laboratories identifies and characterizes susceptibility genes for diabetes and obesity as these affect the Native American population
- The University of Arizona College of Medicine began with 24 students in fall 2007 and expects to expand to 150 students. They are located in the renovated historic former Phoenix Union High School buildings along Van Buren between 5th and 7th streets.
- The Arizona Biomedical Collaborative I (ABC I) a four story building of approximately 85,000 sq. feet. The facility is located along 5th Street just south of the TGen/IGC headquarters. The ABC I houses the ASU Department of Bioinformatics and wet lab space for the U of A College of Medicine, diabetes, cancer, and neurological research.
- Phoenix Union Bioscience High School - The Phoenix Union High School District Bioscience High School is located in close proximity to the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. The Bioscience High School is located at Pierce and McKinley between 5th and 6th streets. The four year high school consists of 52,000 sq. feet with a rooftop lab, outside amphitheater, classrooms, and science labs. The Bioscience High School expects to eventually serve a total of 400 students.
