The city of Phoenix regulates certain business activities and services by requiring a license or permit in order to operate within the city limits. Currently, the city administers nearly 30 license/permit types, such as liquor, bingo, pawnshop, escort bureau and street/sidewalk vending.

Applicants for a regulatory license are asked to provide information such as business name/type, location, mailing address, ownership type, owners, officers/directors, personal identification data and personal background data. Completed applications are processed and forwarded to various city departments for recommendation on approval or denial. Only after successful completion of the city's application process, will the license or permit be approved and issued.
