Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel
As an outgrowth of the many downtown development and redevelopment projects, there
has been a rapid increase in hotel room demand from business, leisure, and convention
travelers visiting the area. To meet this demand, a new 1,000-room hotel is being constructed on the northwest corner of 3rd Street and Van Buren.
The Phoenix Convention Center
Phoenix
Convention Center is the premier location for convention and trade
shows in Arizona . This facility hosts an average of 540 annual
events including more than 45 conventions each year with one million
visitors annually. The Phoenix Convention Center is undergoing an expansion
to triple the current amount of exhibition and meeting space. The
development concept features a new convention facility
with a below-grade exhibition hall, a street-level ballroom with
meeting facilities and two smaller exhibition halls. Construction on the multi-phased project
began in 2004 and will be completed in 2008. Phase I, which includes the new West building, will be complete in May of 2006.
Additional Hotel Facilities
The newly renovated Wyndham Phoenix and the
Hyatt Regency are two of downtown’s premier hotels.
Newer hotels, such as the Holiday Inn Express and Marriott’s
Springhill Suites have also been developed to accommodate
downtown visitors. The Clarendon Hotel and Hotel San Carlos,
a 1928 era boutique hotel, have recently undergone extensive renovations.
In addition, Phoenix Suns ownership and Starwood hotels are developing plans for a new downtown hotel located next to the US Airways Center. The W Phoenix Hotel and Residences will feature 200 guest rooms, 140 condominiums, a signature restaurant, bar, and spa. At 450 feet, the W hotel will be one of the tallest structures on the downtown skyline. The project is scheduled to break ground in 2006 and open in 2008.
