Summer Reading with the Diamondbacks: The Arizona Diamondbacks will be hosting the "Read Your Way to the Ballpark," where students up to age 18 can earn prizes by reading. Nominations Being Accepted for Student and Community Recognition Awards: Nominations are sought for the Phoenix Mayor’s Commission on Disability Issues Student and Community Recognition Awards. The student awards recognize outstanding students with disabilities for their personal and academic achievements. The awards are given in three categories: grades 1-6, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12. To be eligible, students must have a disability, and reside or attend a school in Phoenix. Student and community award winners will receive special recognition by the mayor and City Council. The program is sponsored by the Phoenix Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues in cooperation with the city's Equal Opportunity Department. Junior Golf: Youth between the ages of 8 to 17 can register for group golf lessons that will be offered at five city golf courses: Aguila, Cave Creek, Encanto, Maryvale and Palo Verde. It's $5 per six-week session. Visit phoenix.gov/golf for more information and to register for these programs.

Help Phoenix Sister City Devastated by Earthquake: Phoenix has created an earthquake relief fund to benefit Chengdu, which has been a sister city to Phoenix since 1986. Donations, which are tax-deductible, can be made at all local Wells Fargo bank branches to the Chengdu Earthquake Relief Fund. Chengdu, a city of some 10 million people that serves as the capital of the Sichuan Province, lies about 60 miles from the epicenter of the 7.9-magnitude earthquake that has left many people dead, injured, or without a home. Volunteer at the Library: Phoenix Public Library is recruiting teens, ages 12 to 18, to volunteer this summer. Teens can apply at any Phoenix Public Library location. Teen volunteers will shelve library materials, organize a naturalization ceremony, administer the summer reading program and assist with library programming. Training will be provided. Volunteering at Phoenix Public Library is a fun way to meet new teens, learn job skills and gain references for resumes, job applications and college admissions.
