CITY ELECTIONS
•
Council Election – Sept.
1, 2009
On
Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, the City of Phoenix will hold
the regularly scheduled Council Election in which voters
in Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8 will elect city council members.
If no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast
for an office, the two candidates receiving the highest
number of votes will participate in a Runoff Election
on Nov. 3, 2009.
In
this Election ballot measures may be referred to all voters
in the city.
When
are City elections held?
The regular Phoenix elections for Mayor
and City Council are held in September and November (Runoff)
of odd-numbered years. Council member terms are staggered;
therefore the next regular elections are as follows.
•
Council Members in Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8 will be elected
in 2009.
•
The Mayor and Council Members in Districts 1, 3, 5 and
7 will be elected in 2011.
Special
elections may be called by the City Council or as required
by law. State law (A.R.S.
§ 16-204) permits special elections to be held
on only four dates each year.

3. The ninth Tuesday before the first Tuesday after the
first Monday in November
