TAXI CAB VOUCHER PROGRAM

M.P. 102.08
06/94-R

The Taxi Cab Voucher Program provides an alternative method of returning ALS personnel and equipment to the fire station from a hospital following an EMS incident. The taxi cab vouchers should be used after those incidents that require a Paramedic to accompany a patient during transport, and where extended out-of-service times and excessive travel distances to the receiving hospital make it impractical for the ALS company to retrieve the Paramedic and equipment In each case, the use of the taxi cab vouchers shall be at the discretion of the Company Officer.

The EMS Division will issue the taxi cab vouchers in groups of 20 to ALS companies on an "as needed" basis, and will maintain a complete record of the vouchers allocated to each company.

Company Officers should reorder additional vouchers when their current supply is depleted to seven or less. The cab vouchers should be carried in a convenient location on the apparatus.

Whenever a cab voucher is to be used, the Paramedic using it should obtain one voucher from his/ her Company Officer prior to leaving the EMS incident scene. After arriving at the receiving hospital, the Paramedic should telephone the taxi cab company and request a cab for transportation back to the fire station.

The Paramedic must include the date, incident number and his/her signature on the voucher. Prior to signing, he/she should verify that the meter fare matches the amount written on the voucher. The Paramedic must then retain the white customer copy of the cab voucher.

The voucher number, the name of the paramedic using it and the cost must be included when the EMS incident is entered into the company log book.

The white customer copy of the voucher must then be forwarded via Departmental mail, to the Fiscal Management section at Fire Administration for verification and final billing.
