Phoenix Fire 800MHz Trunked Radio Network graphic

800MHz is here!  The Phoenix Fire Department is transitioning to the 800MHz trunked radio system for Non-Hazard Zone calls starting on November 9th, 2009. We will begin with Battalion 19 on November 9th and then transition Battalion by Battalion starting with Battalion 1 through Battalion 8 on every A-shift through November. The transition will be complete by December 3rd, 2009.

If you ask most of our members “What is 800MHz?”, the response most will give is that it is a broken radio system that we spent millions of dollars on and is unreliable for firefighters.

This radio system is not a broken system.  On the contrary, this 800MHz trunked radio system is very reliable and will provide us better communications than our current VHF conventional radio system.

Trunked Radio System

The biggest problem we will face as an organization is that the 800MHz trunked radio system will look and operate a little different than what we are used to currently.  It will require us to manage two radio systems until we can transition to the trunked radio system completely for both hazard zone and non-hazard zone incidents.

This webpage is designed to give you up to date information on a variety of topics to help you understand the transition process.

Any question or concerns you have should be directed to any member of the Radio Transition Team at Fire Technical Services or you Union Representatives.
