BEWARE: Telemarketer Scams

In the aftermath of the tragedies in New York and Washington, where more than 350 firefighters died in the line of duty, phone solicitors falsely representing firefighters across the U.S. have been trying to collect money. The callers say they are firefighters representing various fire service organizations.

The callers will say they collect funds for many Fire Dept. programs, including the New York Fire Department’s bereavement services for families of firefighters lost in the line of duty, Phoenix Fire Dept’s disabled firefighters, Camp Courage Burn Camp and more.

THESE CALLERS DO NOT REPRESENT ANY LEGITIMATE FIRE DEPT. ORGANIZATIONS, AND MONEY SHOULD NOT BE DONATED TO THEIR CAUSES!

At this time, the Professional Firefighters of Arizona know of NO CURRENT PHONE SOLICITATION BY ANY FIRE DEPARTMENT IN MARICOPA COUNTY. If you receive a call from a Fire Department organization soliciting money, hang up.

If you have questions regarding the legitimacy of a firefighter charity, calls can be made to United Phoenix Fire Fighters, Local 493 at 602-277-1500.
