City of Phoenix Quarter-Section CAD Maps
September 2002

The CAD CD-ROM contains all of the City of Phoenix Engineering Quarter-Section maps in DXF format CAD files. These are intended for use with AutoCAD, Microstation, ArcView (with the CAD Reader extension) or similar software. The entire city is split into 2,085 quarter-section (half-mile square) areas. Each quarter-section is designated by a row-column number (15-23 for example) and has five DXF files:

DXF File Description
arr_row-column.dxf Leader lines for parcel, easement or street label text
ease_row-column.dxf Easement lines
Easement dimensions
Ordinance or resolution numbers
land_row-column.dxf Parcels and lot lines
Split and combined lots
Right-of-way lines
Lot numbers and dimensions
Street numbers
Subdivision names
mon_row-column.dxf Monument lines
Street centerlines
Street names
Street width
Curve information
survey_row-column.dxf Survey monument points

All five DXF files for each quarter-section are compressed in one Zip archive named row-column.zip on the CD-ROM.

How to Use the CAD CD-ROM

  1. Open the quarter-section locator map on the CD-ROM (qsindex.dwg) in AutoCAD and use it to find the quarter-section area(s) you need.

For example, the quarter-section for the northeast corner of Indian School Road and Central Avenue is row 17 and column 28 (17-28).

  2. Extract the DXF files from the quarter-section Zip archive using WinZip, pkzip or a similar program and save it on your hard drive. All of the Zip archives are in the dxf_files subdirectory on the CD-ROM.

Find 17-28.zip in the dxf_files subdirectory on the CD-ROM and extract the DXF file(s) you need to your hard drive.

  3. Import the DXF file(s) you want to use into AutoCAD.

From the File menu select Open and choose land_17-28.dxf, mon_17-28.dxf, etc.
From the View menu select Zoom and Extents to view the maps.

IMPORTANT: The geographic projection and coordinates used for the DXF files are:

Projection: State Plane
Zone: Arizona Central
Datum: NAD83 HPGN/HARN
Coordinates: International Feet
