More than 600 people including more than 140 Phoenix residents attended the 2008 Neighborhood Day at the State Legislature at the Capitol on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008. Neighborhood leaders and concerned citizens had the opportunity to attend a neighborhood legislative program, meet with representatives from the Arizona State Senate and the Arizona House of Representatives, enjoy a free lunch and take a tour of the Capitol. The 2008 Neighbhorhood Day Legislative Agenda was unveiled during the program. This agenda reflects issues that, if passed at the State Legislature, will make neighborhoods better.
This year, space was made available for neighborhood organizations to showcase their accomplishments. Additionally, a free neighborhood lobbying workshop was available to 100 registrants to learn how a bill becomes law, ways to effectively communicate with legislators and techniques used by professional lobbyists to influence legislation.
The 2008 Neighborhood Day at the State Legislature, emceed by David J. Ramirez, Phoenix's own host of DiverseCity, was the result of a collaboration with 14 other cities and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.
