This year, the Intergovernmental Programs Office sponsored five free workshops throughout Phoenix for residents to learn more about the state legislative process and how it affects neighborhoods.
The workshops presented an overview of the state legislative process and how to become involved in decisions being made at the state Legislature, tips on effective lobbying techniques and how to use technology to track legislation. In addition, two guest state lawmakers were invited to each session to offer advice on how to effectively communicate with your legislator and how the decisions they make impact your neighborhood. The meetings were designed to help demystify the lobbying process and encourage public involvement from neighborhood groups and residents in the creation of public policy.
Our sincere thanks to guest legislators who attended the Neighborhood Legislative Workshops including: Rep. Adam Driggs (R-Phoenix, LD11), Rep. Chad Campbell (D-Phoenix, LD14), Rep. David Lujan (D-Phoenix, LD15), former Rep. John Loredo, Rep. Jackie Thrasher (D-Glendale, LD10), Rep. Mark DeSimone (D-Phoenix, LD11), and Sen. Jim Waring (R-Phoenix, LD7), Rep. Steve Gallardo, Minority Whip (D-Phoenix, LD13), and Rep. Ben Miranda (D-Phoenix, LD16). They each provided wonderful insights into the legislative process.
