Job Description

COURT/LEGAL CLERK III
ASSIGN: PROSECUTOR

JOB CODE 00531

Effective Date: 07/94N

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Court/Legal Clerk III, on assignment of Prosecutor, is responsible for supervising a work unit in the Criminal Division (Prosecutor's Office) of the Law Department. Responsibilities include scheduling, prioritizing, reviewing, monitoring, directing, and evaluating the work of Court/Legal Clerks I and II assigned to the Charging or Trial Bureau; and training new and existing staff. This is a full supervisory assignment, with the authority to exercise considerable independent judgment in the daily operation of the section. Work is performed under the supervision of a Bureau Chief (Deputy City Prosecutor or designee).

This class is distinguished from the base class of Court/Legal Clerk III by the greater level of independence and decision-making authority required to perform the duties, due to the lack of intermediate supervisors between the incumbents and the bureau chiefs.
