LIBRARY SUPPORT SERVICES SUPERVISOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assign and review the work of a group of Library Clerks and other clerical, supply, and courier employees assigned to the Processing Section of the Technical Services Division. Direct supervision is exercised over employees performing such assignments as processing library materials, ordering supplies, bookmending, sign making, and courier duties. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Technical Services Administrator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises clerical, supply, and courier employees;
- Supervises and participates in the selection, training, and evaluation of employees;
- Reviews and establishes work procedures;
- Reviews the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards;
- Plans work assignments to accomplish department objectives;
- Keeps personnel and activity records and writes reports;
- Supervises centralized supply ordering and warehouse operations for all libraries;
- Supervises bookmending operations;
- Supervises edge stamping, pocketing, labeling, and jacketing of newly acquired library materials;
- Supervises employees who make signs using modern sign making equipment;
- Supervises the preparation of books and periodicals for commercial binding;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Communicate in the English language by phone or in person in a one-to-one or group setting.
- Move light objects (less than 20 pounds) short distances (20 feet or less).
- Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts, using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Perform basic mathematical and statistical computations and analysis.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. The individual must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential functions.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Three years of library clerical experience, including one year of experience performing a wide variety of responsible clerical tasks with considerable independence in a library facility. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
