FIRE EMERGENCY DISPATCHER
ASSIGN: LEAD

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

This assignment is responsible for coordinating the work of Fire Emergency Dispatchers and Emergency Dispatchers during peak hours and major field incidents, coordinating the staffing of additional field units to be used in the event of a major situation, maintaining lists of units' status to ensure all possible available units are in service, assigning units to move up assignments to cover for stations which will be out of service for any length of time, ensuring that positional rotation schedules for dispatch/incident positions are maintained and balanced, and setting break and lunch schedules. Employees in this assignment assist with changing computer tape logs, notifying technical staff in the event of equipment problems with either the computer or radio systems, restarting the computer system following a system shutdown, and coordinating staffing of dispatch personnel in the event of a major field situation or system failure. Incumbents participate in the development and implementation of training programs for the dispatching staff, and may act in the supervisor's absence on matters for which authority has been delegated. Employees in this assignment must have the ability to perceive the full range of the color spectrum, such as working with electronically produced letters, numbers, and/or images on a computerized monitor.
