PRINTING SERVICES FOREMAN
JOB CODE 02050
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise a group of employees operating within the Printing Services Section. Supervision is exercised over Offset Press Operators, Phototypesetters, Reproduction Equipment Operators, and other employees engaged in providing printing services. Performance is evaluated by the Printing Services Supervisor through observation, conferences, and results achieved.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises the operation of printing, typesetting, camera, and reproduction equipment in the Printing Service Section of the City Clerk Department;
- Operates offset presses, offset plate processors, and related print shop equipment during any staff shortages;
- Acts for the Printing Service Supervisor during any absence;
- Monitors operational phases and staff work and reprioritizes work flow to ensure conformance to standards;
- Prioritizes and assigns job requests to staff;
- Trains staff in methods to achieve maximum accuracy, efficiency, and understanding;
- Schedules staff assignments for day and night shifts according to established procedures;
- Assesses job requests and established methods to achieve accuracy and quality;
- Coordinates job requests with Citywide users;
- Instructs staff to use printing, typesetting, camera, and reproduction equipment;
- Troubleshoots equipment problems and makes minor repairs;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Operation and maintenance of printing services functions and equipment.
- Printing services supplies.
- Principles and practices of supervision and training techniques.
- Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibility over others.
- Observe and monitor employees' behavior and equipment operations to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees.
- Comprehend and make inferences from materials written in the English language.
- Work independently within established procedures and policies.
- Sort, separate, arrange, file or distribute incoming mail, products, or materials in a prescribed manner during any staff shortage.
- Perform basic arithmetic calculations for recording data.
- Prepare boxed or bundles of forms, tapes, or other materials for distribution or mailing during any staff shortage.
- Coordinate the movement of more than one limb simultaneously.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle of if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Four years of experience in printing services and six months of supervisory experience. Other combinations of education and experience that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
