ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR

JOB CODE 03280

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide assistance to the City Controller with the day-to-day administration of the Accounts Division of the Finance Department which maintains centralized accounts for the control of City assets; administers the City's payroll; satisfies the City's financial obligations; centrally bills City receivables and maintains grant accounting records. Responsibilities include direction of a wide range of fiscal accounting studies; preparation of financial reports; maintenance of accounting records; overseeing the payroll, payable and receivable operations; and direction of the operation and maintenance of the City's computerized Financial Management System (FMS), payroll system and Centralized Accounts Receivable (CARS) System. Supervision is exercised over a staff of professional accounting employees. Work is performed with wide latitude for exercise of professional discretion within parameters established by the Controller. Incumbents function as the Controller in that person's absence.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Three years of professional level supervisory experience in governmental accounting work or auditing, and a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, economics, or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
