EQUIPMENT PARTS SUPERVISOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise the stocking and distribution of a large volume and variety of heavy equipment and automotive parts. The incumbent is responsible for inventory accountability, maintaining a perpetual inventory records system in support of the Equipment Management Division's automotive repair facilities, and establishing minimum and maximum inventory levels in accordance with City requirements. Supervision is exercised over Auto Parts Clerks I, II, and III; Account Clerks I and II; Equipment Operators I; Equipment Service Workers I; and an Inventory Control Specialist. The Equipment Parts Supervisor works under the general supervision of the Deputy Public Works Director and work is reviewed through reports, discussions and results obtained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises the maintenance of a perpetual inventory records system and recommends changes and improvements as appropriate;
- Supervises the stocking, recording and distribution of a large volume of replacement parts for a variety of City equipment such as cars, trucks, fire engines, bulldozers, cranes, trenchers and motorcycles;
- Interacts with Equipment Maintenance Supervisors and the Equipment Maintenance Superintendent in coordinating parts and supplies processes for the automotive service repair centers;
- Develops and prepares written and oral audits, status reports, and part reports analysis;
- Provides vehicle and driver dispatch for the receipt and delivery of equipment parts from local vendors;
- Provides for the addition of stock items and removal of obsolete parts;
- Expedites the delivery of critically needed items;
- Provides computer file maintenance services for Equipment Management Division and automotive service repair centers' inventories;
- Inventories equipment parts, supplies, tools and service manuals.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Warehouse storage methods and practices.
- Computer inventory records systems, programmed for equipment parts supply support.
- Automotive and heavy duty equipment parts and their nomenclature, identification systems, interchangeability and sources of supply.
- Requisition order distribution systems.
- Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees, vendors and the public.
- Review or check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards.
- Communicate orally with co-workers, vendors, and other user departments in face-to-face one-to-one settings or using a telephone.
- Observe or monitor data to determine compliance with prescribed operating standards.
- Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper English sentence construction, punctuation and grammar.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Five years of experience in supply support inventory systems relative to automotive and heavy duty equipment parts, including two years of supervisory experience. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
