ASSIGN: INTERGOVERNMENTAL PROGRAMS

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Management Assistant III assigned Intergovernmental Programs serves as an assistant to the Intergovernmental Affairs Coordinator, and is actively involved in the same major issues as the Coordinator. Duties include promoting legislation in the City's interest and opposing bills that would be detrimental to the City. Work involves frequent interaction with and providing legislative updates to top-level City management and the City, County, State and Federal elected officials. The incumbent analyzes legislative and regional issues and prepares written policy options for the City Manager and Mayor/Council consideration. Duties include coordinating City activities with the Maricopa Association of Governments, the League of Arizona Cities and Towns, and with all major cities and towns in Arizona.

This assignment is distinguished from the base class of Management Assistant III by its participation in the formulation of City policy and frequent interactions with elected officials. Work is performed under the general direction of the Intergovernmental Affairs Coordinator.
