ASSIGN: MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Under general supervision of a Youth Services Coordinator, the Caseworker II on assignment to Mental Health is responsible for providing therapeutic interventions and counseling to individual Head Start preschool children and family members. Responsibilities include writing child or family psychological or social assessments regarding present issues, risk assessment, social history, mental status, past treatment or diagnoses. Incumbents further assess Head Start children developmentally, socially, emotionally, and cognitively for the presenting problems and create treatment plans.

The need to provide clinical counseling requiring a master's degree, and licensure by the Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, distinguish this assignment from the base class.
