HOUSING INSPECTOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to conduct initial move-in, annual occupied, and special inspections on single family residences, town houses and apartments to ensure that properties meet federal and local housing quality standards required for eligibility in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. Incuments make independent judgments in the field in accordance with departmental policy, and must effectively communicate these decisions to others to obtain compliance. Incumbents report to a Housing Inspector*Lead, and work is evaluated based upon result obtained.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
One year of experience in building inspections or in a technical trade such as plumbing, electrical, or HVAC, including some public contact work. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
