PROJECT MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assist and provide support to Project Managers and Economic Development Program Managers involved in the coordination and implementation of the various development, redevelopment or capital improvement projects. With the orientation of Project Management Assistant towards a career in community and economic development, an essential element of the work involves being trained in and learning about the functional activities involved in the implementation of public improvements and private redevelopment projects. Project Management Assistants must be able to interact both with private developers and their staffs as well as with representatives of other City departments involved in a particular program or projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Deputy Community & Economic Development Director, Economic Development Administrator, or Project Manager and requires initiative and good judgement. As more skill and knowledge are acquired, more complex projects are assigned with more independence in problem solving.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works with other departments to facilitate project implementations;
- Analyzes, interprets, and writes reports of research findings;
- Enters data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Community and economic development planning and evaluation techniques.
- Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Operate a keyboard device such as a CRT or PC.
- Communicate orally in the English language with other employees, developers, and the public in a face-to-face, one-to-one setting, by phone and in a group setting.
- Use graphic instructions, such as blueprint, schematic drawings, layouts, and other visual aids.
- Comprehend and make inferences from material written in the English language.
- Work cooperatively with City employees, developers, and the public.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Two years of experience in governmental research, urban development, finance or public administration and a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, urban planning, architecture, engineering, economics or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
