KEY ENTRY OPERATOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to use a data entry system to record and verify production data from source documents. Incumbents work under the general supervision of a Lead Key Entry Operator who plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews work for speed and accuracy. After initial training, the employee is expected to be able to follow data entry procedures and exercise independent judgment in maintaining the routine flow of work. Some positions require shift work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Enters alphabetical and numerical data from source documents onto pre-formatted computer screens;
- Verifies and corrects errors in keyed data.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Skill in:Ability to:
- The operation of alphabetic and numeric data entry software.
- Operate a standard PC keyboard quickly and accurately at or above the minimum acceptance rate of 10,000 keystrokes per hour.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
- View a computer screen for extended periods of time.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Six months of data entry coursework or one year of experience in the operation of key entry equipment. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
