LEAD KEY ENTRY OPERATOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise an assigned shift of Key Entry Operators involved in the coding, transcribing, and verification of data on a computerized data entry system. Incumbents in this class document shift production and system utilization statistical data; balance work flow among operators; monitor the integrity and security of data stored on the LAN and mainframe; train new operators; and review operator performance and output for accuracy and efficiency. The Lead Key Entry Operator reports to the MIS Shift Supervisor, and performance is evaluated on the quality and quantity of shift production. Some incumbents are assigned to shift work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises Key Entry Operators on an assigned shift;
- Receives data and assigns work to operators;
- Trains new operators on existing job and present operators on new jobs;
- Enters and verifies data on data entry system;
- Transcribes data from the PC LAN system to mainframe for output to multiple environments;
- Maintains files of procedures and operating manuals.
- Operates key entry and verification equipment;
- Balances work flow among operators.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:Ability to:
- The functions and operation of a PC LAN data entry system, associated devices, and operating systems, including DOS.
- Supervisory principles and practices.
- Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
- Enter data or information into a terminal, PC or other keyboard device.
- Communicate orally with customers, clients, or the public in face-to-face one-on-one settings, or using a telephone.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships by working cooperatively with others.
- Review operator performance and output for accuracy and efficiency.
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements such as a calculator or computer keyboard.
- Remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
- Memorize and work with complex coding and entry procedures.
- Instruct employees in the operation of data entry equipment to obtain speed and accuracy.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Three years of experience as a data entry operator, including some experience in forms programming. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
