COMPUTER SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN
JOB CODE 09230
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to maintain a library of magnetic tapes and related documentation to ensure the availability of serviceable tapes to operators involved in computer systems information processing. Duties include inventory control, security of tapes and related program documentation, maintenance and repair of tapes and accessories, and production program source and object libraries updates. Work is performed within the limits of well defined procedures. Supervision is received from the Police Computer Operations Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Verifies identifying information on tape reels;
- Sets up computer runs, using job control language, to produce current inventory and status reports of all tapes to modify production program source and object libraries;
- Rotates tapes off site for security;
- Cleans and repairs tapes;
- Performs physical inventories of tapes and notifies supervisor of requirements for new tapes;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Care and maintenance of magnetic tapes and accessories.
- Learn job-related material through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.
- Enter data or information into a terminal, PC or other keyboard device.
- Manipulate tape leaders and broken tapes.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees.
- Move objects weighing less than 20 pounds short distances of 20 feet or less.
- Observe, compare, or monitor data to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Appointments to positions in the Police Department are subject to appropriate polygraph and background standards.
- Some positions require the use of a personal or City vehicle on City business. Individual must be physically capable of operating the vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Two years of combined experience in data control and computer operation. Other combinations of experience and training that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
