FINANCE DIRECTOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, direct, and coordinate the activities relating to accounting, fiscal report, debt management, treasury functions including cash management, investments, business licensing administration, and sales tax administration, real estate, risk management, purchasing, and warehousing. The employee in this class is concerned with the formulation and execution of broad policy, immediate technical supervision, and participation in departmental activities. The Finance Director serves as an ex-officio member of the Executive Board of the General Employees Retirement System and is Chairman of the Retirement Investment Committee. Work is performed in accordance with statutory procedures and broad policies as prescribed by the City Manager's Office which holds the Finance Director responsible for the effectiveness of departmental programs. The Finance Director reports to a Deputy City Manager.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Five years of experience in managing a medium- to large-scale public agency finance department, including three years of experience at a policy determination level, and a master's degree in business administration, public administration or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
