SUBSTANCE ABUSE SCREENING SUPERVISOR

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, administer, and coordinate all activities of the court-ordered Substance Abuse Screening Service of the Municipal Court. Work involves developing operational procedures, resolving operational problems, and intervention with staff on problematic cases. Direct supervision is exercised over the classifications of Substance Abuse Screener and Secretary III. Supervision is received from the Executive Court Administrator in the form of policy directives, reports, and conferences. Performance is evaluated on the basis of standards and results obtained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plans, administers, and supervises the activities of the Substance Abuse Screening Service section of the Municipal Court;
- Prepares and reviews task packages for budget submission;
- Develops, writes, and implements operational procedures as necessary;
- Audits case file records to ensure appropriateness of program assignments and screenings, for compliance with procedures and standards for accuracy and completeness;
- Interprets policies, procedures, laws, and regulations;
- Resolves problems;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Management principles and practices.
- Principles and practices of alcohol abuse screening, education, treatment, and intervention.
- Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
- Communicate orally with defendants or the public using a telephone.
- Review or check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards.
- Work cooperatively, tactfully, and courteously with other City employees, defendants, and the public.
- Respond positively and constructively in resolving problems.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Four years of experience in the clinical treatment of drug and/or alcohol abuse, and a bachelor's degree in a behavioral health science from an accredited college or university. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
