TRANSIT FIELD OPERATIONS MANAGER

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide responsible oversight and coordination of service in the field and interfacing with METRO and City departments on issues affecting public transit services. This classification is responsible for supervision of the Field Operations Supervisor as well as maintaining control, oversight, and coordination of contracted fixed route and paratransit service provided by multiple contractors to passengers and agencies served by the Public Transit Department. Incumbents in this position report to the Transit Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinates and manages multiple contractors providing service to the City;
- Oversees the monitoring and observation of contractor provided transit service for quality and reliability;
- Oversees the radio communications functions for transit operations;
- Reviews contractors' quality assurance plans and execution;
- Works with contractors to ensure compliance of all contractual obligations;
- Serves as Phoenix Transit Department field liaison to other City departments, government agencies and contractors;
- Researches information affecting bus service provision;
- Attends and participates in special event planning meetings to ensure minimal disruption of transit service;
- Notifies all service providers of potential for service disruption;
- Participates in the preparation and directs the dissemination of passenger information notices;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Produce documents written in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- This position will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work assignment, location or shift.
- This position will require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in transit or paratransit operations, communications, maintenance or planning, including two years at a supervisory level. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
