TRAFFIC ENGINEER I

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform traffic engineering work at the entry professional level. Duties include preparing transportation studies which involve computing and analyzing data gathered from field studies. Assignments also include designing streets, roads, and driveways for the safe control and flow of traffic. With time in class, assignments generally broaden to include public contact on various traffic engineering issues. Work is performed under the supervision of a professional traffic engineer and is reviewed through conferences and evaluation of written reports and plans.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, including courses in traffic engineering. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
