TRAFFIC ENGINEER II

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to apply professional traffic engineering knowledge and skills to the design, construction and engineering of traffic engineering projects and systems. This class differs from that of Traffic Engineer I in that the incumbent is expected to perform skilled and difficult professional engineering work with a minimum of supervision. The duties of the position require frequent contacts with the public, making tact and maturity of judgment essential requirements. Assignments are usually broad in scope with opportunity for the use of independent professional judgment. Work is reviewed usually by a Traffic Engineering Supervisor through conferences and evaluation of written reports and plans.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
One year of experience performing entry level traffic engineering work and a bachelor's degree in engineering, including courses in traffic engineering or highway engineering. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
