The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform advanced professional landscape architect work relating to the planning, design, and construction of City projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of Engineering Supervisor, Parks Development Administrator, or Planner III, who evaluates performance based upon results.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares master plans, renderings, cost estimates, construction drawings and other necessary work for the completion of design projects;
- Reviews designs, drawings, payment requests, and schedules prepared by consultants;
- Performs site visits and field inspections of landscape projects under construction;
- Reviews on-going and completed plans for compliance with approved standards, City codes, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements;
- Prepares reports and presentation materials for various boards, commissions, and City Council meetings and attends those meetings;
- Represents the City and department to various commissions, consultants, and City departments;
- Coordinates work with consultants and applicable city, county, state, and other agencies;
- Responds to inquiries from the public;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:Ability to:
- Principles and practices of public administration.
- Principles and practices of landscape architecture as applied to the preparation of designs, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for landscape and site developments.
- Principles and practices of park and open space planning, environmental science, and ecology.
- Characteristics and requirements of various plant materials.
- Prepare designs, perspective drawings and color renderings.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Communicate orally in the English language with customers, clients, and the public using a telephone, in groups, and face-to-face, one-to-one settings.
- Establish priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
- Produce documents written in the English language using proper sentence construction, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential or marginal functions depending upon work assignment, location, or shift.
- Must be registered in the State of Arizona as a professional Landscape Architect by the end of the probationary period.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Three years of landscape architectural experience, with a emphasis in public projects, and a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
