DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Chemist I assigned to Quality Assurance is responsible for administration and oversight of the laboratory's quality systems and policies and review of analytical procedures and technology for compliance with established policies and procedures.

Assignment to Quality Assurance of the compliance lab requires the incumbent to conduct in-house audits of laboratory operations, including bench analytical and data package audits to ensure data produced by the laboratory has known and established levels of accuracy and precision and is performed in accordance with procedures approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), and National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) standards.

This assignment differs from the base classification of Chemist I due to the monitoring and enforcement responsibilities to ensure compliance and maintain the compliance laboratory's ADHS licensure and NELAC certification.
