ASSIGN: COMMUNICATIONS CENTER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Aviation Supervisor II on assignment as Communications Center Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the Airport Communications Center. The Communications Center Supervisor is primarily concerned with assuring the center provides smooth, reliable communications on a daily, 24-hour basis. The work involves training employees, dealing with the public, reviewing procedures to ensure that standards are met, and checking all communications and monitoring equipment to determine that it is functioning properly. The incumbent handles communications regarding emergency situations such as airplane crashes, hijacking, fires, etc., and notifies the various public safety agencies.

The Aviation Supervisor II on assignment to the Communications Center reports to a Deputy Aviation Director or other supervisor. This assignment differs from the base class by the additional administrative responsibilities and the required technical knowledge of communications equipment, such as automatic switchboards, paging devices, computer terminals, multi-frequency radios, and monitoring devices.
