AVIATION MARKETING SUPERVISOR
JOB CODE 25250
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, develop, implement, and administer the marketing and public information plans and strategies designed to increase the public acceptance of Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports. Duties include serving as liaison with domestic and international airlines, professional airport organizations, local, state, civic and business leaders, travel agents, convention professionals, and federal agencies. The incumbent is required to exercise considerable independent management judgment and initiative in defining the activities and polices of the marketing and public information programs. Performance is evaluated by the Aviation Director on the basis of results obtained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manages the Public Information and Marketing Programs for the Aviation Department;
- Develops and manages the Market Planning Program;
- Develops an analytical framework of market data and trends;
- Develops strategies and marketing plans for target markets;
- Leads the development of Aviation staff teams to implement marketing strategies;
- Coordinates promotional activities consistent with marketing strategies;
- Represents the department to outside agencies involved in business recruitment requiring air service analysis;
- Works with travel agents, airlines, and business groups to promote Sky Harbor International Airport;
- Makes presentations to community and professional groups;
- Serves as advisor to the Director and Assistant Director on international air service;
- Develops reports on progress of marketing program;
- Represents the department with tourist industry groups;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Economics of airline operations.
- Federal and international regulation pertaining to international air commerce.
- Principles of Public Relations.
- Work cooperatively with leaders of the hospitality industry, local and state government, civic and business organizations, and other City employees.
- Develop and implement an effective marketing strategy for Sky Harbor, Goodyear, and Deer Valley airports.
- Communicate orally in the English language with individuals in a face-to-face, one-on-one or group settings and by using the telephone.
- Deal tactfully and work effectively with people and varied management levels.
- Produce documents written in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Involve local resources in the marketing effort.
- Supervise professional staff.
- Compose speeches, radio ads, television scripts, reports, articles, news stories, and brochures.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work assignment, location, or shift.
- Some positions require the use of a personal or City vehicle on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Four years of management experience in developing and implementing marketing programs within the aviation, travel, or tourism industries aimed primarily at large domestic or international markets and a bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
