SENIOR SALES/MARKETING SUPERVISOR
JOB CODE 27250
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop and administer sales, marketing plans, and strategies designed to increase the utilization of the Phoenix Convention Center and venues. Responsibilities include supervising staff engaged in sales, advertising, and promotions. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in defining the activities and policies of the sales and marketing program. General supervision is provided by a Deputy Convention Center Director, who evaluates performance on the basis of results obtained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Selects, trains, and assigns work to the sales and marketing staff;
- Oversees work procedures and inspects work in progress and upon completion;
- Effectively manages, monitors and interacts with the sales team to ensure they consistently perform in accordance with established sales processes, procedures and key performance indicators;
- Directs and interacts with key convention clients, assisting sales team with maintaining relationships, negotiating, qualifying and closing deals, provides advice and guidance in developing appropriate solutions to meet client needs;
- Oversees and approves contracts and contractual agreements for events booked in all venues; ensures contracts follow all Department and City policies and procedures and are in compliance with applicable laws;
- Plans, develops, and supervises the promotion of the Convention Center and Venues to maximize revenues;
- Controls the master booking schedule;
- Meets and works cooperatively with civic, corporate, and educational organizations;
- Coordinates sales and marketing plans and strategies for convention business with the Convention and Visitors Bureau;
- Coordinates sales and marketing plans and strategies for non-convention business;
- Develops promotional brochures and related sales brochures;
- Develops and oversees a local promotional campaign, including campaigns for special projects;
- Develops and oversees a continuing advertising program for selected trade publications related to the industry;
- Keeps Phoenix Convention Center and Venues informational material current;
- Meets and arranges meetings with prospective lessees to generate business for the facilities;
- Explains departmental policies on the use of such services as catering, ushers, security, and equipment;
- Quotes rental rates;
- Develops and monitors the section budget and participates in department budget preparation;
- Produces written reports for department management relating to marketing plans, forecasting budget, project status, and staffing assignments;
- Leads by example in supporting guest experience initiatives;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

Additional Requirements:
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require working irregular hours, evenings and weekends.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Four years of public relations or sales experience in a convention bureau, hotel, or other large public assembly facility, including at least two years of supervisory experience, and a bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, public administration, or a related field. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
