ASSISTANT PRODUCTION SERVICES MANAGER
JOB CODE 27360
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform technical and supervisory work to support a variety of stage productions, conferences, conventions, and similar activities at the Phoenix Convention Center and Venues. Work includes providing highly technical event support and assisting the Production Services Manager with the overall operation, modification, design, and maintenance of sound, lighting, and related technical systems used for convention and theatrical productions. Supervision is exercised over Production, Coordinators and Production Assistants. Work is performed under the general review of the Production Services Manager who evaluates performance based upon results obtained. When assigned, the incumbent is responsible for representing the Production Services Manager during his or her absence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Communicates with clients and provides necessary consultation to clarify needs, make recommendations for event setup, and resolve immediate technical problems;
- Determines the number and type of personnel necessary to support events and implements appropriate scheduling in conjunction with the Production Services Manager;
- Assigns work to employees, oversees work procedures and inspects work in progress and upon completion;
- Makes recommendations to appropriate management for capital improvement;
- Designs and engineers major system modifications and replacements in conjunction with the Production Services Manager;
- Requisitions supplies for general operation and maintenance of technical equipment;
- Conducts inspections of systems and equipment to determine status of projects and operational efficiency;
- Participates in budget preparation;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Computerized stage lighting and complex sound operations as conducted in a large public assembly facility designed for multipurpose uses.
- Procedures and techniques required for the installation and maintenance of stage lighting and electronic sound system equipment.
- Electrical and mechanical equipment including tools, test devices and safety methods associated with such equipment.
- Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
- Modify and design equipment and systems to meet event requirements.
- Communicate in the English language by phone or in person in a one-to-one or group setting.
- Observe or monitor objects, data or people's behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
- Perceive the full range of the color spectrum, such as working with electrical wires.
- Read, interpret and draw electronic diagrams, schematics, layouts, and other graphic instructions.
- Comprehend and make inferences from written material.
- Work at heights greater than 10 feet.
- Climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
- Use a catwalk in the performance of duties.
- Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Enter data or information into a computer terminal or other keyboard device.
- Review or check the work products of others to ensure conformance to standards.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees and the general public.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will be required to work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Five years of experience, including two years at a supervisory level, in stage and theatrical support work involving sound, lighting, and stage techniques and maintenance activities, supplemented by advanced technical courses in electronics, communications engineering, or related courses. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
