LEAD TICKET SELLER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assist the Civic Plaza Box Office supervisory staff in directing the activities of the Box Office. Employees in this class have responsibility for managing the Box Office during multiple event shows and supervising the work of part-time Ticket Sellers during the absence of the Box Office Supervisor and the Assistant Box Office Supervisor. In addition, incumbents of this classification sell tickets, prepare daily ticket summary statements, deposit ticket monies, and work with promoters in resolving complications related to events. This classification is differentiated from the Ticket Seller by the more responsible duties assigned and the supervision exercised. Work is reviewed for accuracy and completeness by the Box Office Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises box office operations during non-settlement shows when the Box Office Supervisor and Assistant Box Office Supervisor are absent;
- Assists in supervising and training part-time Ticket Sellers;
- Prepares daily ticket summary statements;
- Resolves ticket or seating complaints or problems that occur during or before an event;
- Works with promoters in resolving problems related to an event;
- Operates computerized ticketing machines;
- Balances cash receipts and unsold tickets to ensure ticket accuracy and security;
- Sells admission tickets to the general public over the counter, by mail order, and telephone reservation;
- Deposits ticket sale monies;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Principles and practices of bookkeeping and cash handling.
- Computerized ticketing systems.
- Prepare simple financial records regarding cash receipts and ticket sales.
- Make arithmetical computations quickly and accurately.
- Communicate in the English language by phone or in person in a one-to-one or group setting.
- Develop supervisory skills and perform lead responsibilities over others.
- Instruct others in an on-the-job setting.
- Perceive the full range of the color spectrum, such as working with color coded paper.
- Draw and use graphic instructions, such as maps, schedules, or seating plans.
- Install, replace, or adjust ribbons, computer paper, or similar materials.
- Prepare bundles of tickets or other material for mailing.
- Operates a variety of standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements.
- Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation which takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.
- Comprehend and make inferences form written material.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Enter data or information into a computer terminal or other keyboard device.
- Remain in a standing or sitting position for extended periods of time.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees and the general public.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Employees in this classification work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Two years of clerical accounting experience including large volume money handling assignments, with one year of experience selling hard and computerized tickets. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
