GOLF RANGER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to patrol a municipal golf course and maintain order and enforce and interpret golf rules and regulations. A Golf Ranger observes the hazards and features of the course that retard the play and report such matters to the Golf Course Supervisor. This employee works with considerable independence and receives only general supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Investigates causes of delay in play on the golf course;
- Resolves problems that occur between individuals or groups of individuals;
- Interprets and enforces golf and course rules and regulations;
- Moves tee markers daily, cleans and fills ball washers and replaces towels;
- Calls the Golf Course Supervisor's attention to physical features that delay the game;
- Checks periodically to ensure that players have green fee tickets;
- Patrols the golf course to keep non-players, animals, and children away from the area of play;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- The game of golf and golf rules and etiquette.
- Golf equipment and supplies and their uses.
- Communicate with the public in a face-to-face one-on-one setting, enforcing departmental rules and resolving complaints, in a tactful and non-threatening manner.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Keep clerical records and prepare routine reports.
- Operate a motor scooter.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
One year of experience as a golfer or a caddy including some public contact work. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
