The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform duties for the 100 + acre Pueblo Grande Museum and Cultural Park. The Pueblo Grande Administrator is responsible for the supervision of all professional, paraprofessional, and maintenance staff, including the City Archaeologist and Museum Curator. Work includes responsibility for planning and directing the development of Pueblo Grande Museum and Cultural Park as a scientific, educational and civic asset to the community. Work is performed independently with general review from the General Services Administrator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Administers the professional operation of the Pueblo Grande Museum;
- Supervises the City Archaeologist and contract archaeological staff;
- Supervises the support and maintenance staff of the archaeological section;
- Supervises the Museum Curator with responsibility for exhibit development, fabrication and implementation, educational programming and publicity and collections management;
- Coordinates with appropriate personnel in other sections, departments and contractors regarding major maintenance and development of buildings, infrastructure and other facilities;
- Plans, implements and evaluates comprehensive cultural park programming;
- Plans, organizes and directs specialized programs with various community groups;
- Works with neighborhood and community groups on matters of civic, cultural park and archaeological interest;
- Acts as primary contact with the Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary and other affiliated groups;
- Develops and implements future citizen bond proposals;
- Develops and implements the Pueblo Grande Master Plan;
- Develops and administers the section's operating and capital budgets;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Archaeology of the Southwest, particularly the Hohokam culture.
- Principles, methods, materials and practices used in cultural park maintenance and management work.
- Professional archaeological principles, methods, materials and practices.
- Museum practices and methods, including the presentation of exhibits, proper methods of storage and processing of a variety of museum specimens and the general care of properties in an archaeological museum.
- Construction practices and methods used in the fabrication of exhibits, museums and cultural park facilities.
- Be tactful and courteous with the public.
- Present an archaeological museum and cultural park as a scientific, educational and civic asset to the community.
- Understand community social conditions in order to meet special interest and general public needs.
- Produce documents written in the English language using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Communicate orally in the English language by telephone or in a one-to-one or group setting.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work locations, assignment, or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Five years of professional museum experience and cultural park work, two years of which must have been at an archaeological site, two years of experience supervising professional museum and/or archaeological staff, and a bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology or a related field, supplemented by courses in management and administration. Other combinations of education and which meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
