ASSISTANT POOL MANAGER

The fundamental reason this class exists is to assist the Pool Manager in the operation of a City pool during the aquatics season. This position works under the direct supervision of the Pool Manager and may be placed in charge of the pool operation in the Manager's absence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assigns and posts Lifeguards to duty areas;
- Develops and gives in-service training programs for the staff;
- Enforces pool rules and regulations for the safety and convenience of the public;
- Schedules periods of instruction and recreational swimming;
- Performs rescues and administers artificial respiration, CPR, and first aid;
- Checks the proper maintenance of the equipment and sanitation of pools and bathhouse facilities;
- Requisitions supplies for pool use;
- Secures all locks and fences and buildings and closes out cash register at the end of the day;
- Supervises evening activities at the pool;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Swimming pool operations, including maintenance and safety.
- Recordkeeping methods and procedures.
- Principles, practices and application of lifesaving CPR and first aid techniques.
- Instruct and schedule staff.
- Keep accurate financial and activity records.
- Work cooperatively with staff and public.
- Coordinate movement of more than one limb simultaneously.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations.
- Lift arm above shoulder level.
- Act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Possession of a current Water Safety Instructors Certificate is required.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work locations, assignment, or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Two years of college level courses plus two summers of aquatics experience. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
