The Sewer Service Worker on assignment to Construction participates on a crew involved in digging and working in trenches of varying depths, and takes direction from a Sewer Service Crew Leader, assigned to Construction. Incumbents of this assignment must be knowledgable of and able to respond appropriately to the hazards associated with underground utilities including water, gas, and electric. Knowledge of construction techniques and general trench safety procedures, including Competent Person and Confined Space Training, and ability to operate tools such as jackhammers, saws, pipe cutters, leveling instruments, fresh air blowers/extractors, and hazardous gas monitoring equipment, are essential.
The knowledge and training required for work in trenches of varying depths differentiate this assignment from the base classification.
