SEWER SERVICE T.V. OPERATOR
JOB CODE 51090
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Effective Date: 04/92A
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled work in the operation of audiovisual equipment used in the inspection of sanitary sewer mains to determine the need for repairs and maintenance of the collections system. Incumbents direct and oversee the work of an assigned crew. Sewer Service T.V. Operators work under the general supervision of a Sewer Service Foreman.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Detects needed repairs of the City's sewer system by operating a video taping camera, Polaroid cameras, a television monitoring screen and an audio visual tape recorder in inspecting the City's sanitary sewer system;
- Troubleshoots mechanical malfunctions of recording and camera equipment;
- Calculates productions statistics;
- Coordinates and participates in the inspection of sewers;
- Writes statistical and narrative reports on work accomplished;
- Cleans equipment using appropriate materials;
- Assigns the work of a small crew and reviews or checks the work to ensure conformance to standards;
- Makes repairs and/or rebuilds T.V. related equipment such as winches, cables, rollers, reels and cords;
- Directs barricading and traffic control;
- Removes and replaces manhole covers;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:Skill in:
- Methods and equipment used in maintaining sanitary sewers.
- The general sewer system of the City.
- Hazards inherent to sewer maintenance work and safety measures to be observed including confined space entry procedures and trench safety regulations.
Ability to:
- The use of common hand tools such as hammer, saw, screw driver, or similar tools.
- Communicate orally with co-workers or the public in a face-to-face one-to-one setting.
- Observe or monitor objects, people's behavior and data to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
- Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, layouts or other visual aids.
- Comprehend and make inferences from written material such as operations and procedures manuals and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Enter manholes to adjust equipment.
- Make fine, highly controlled manipulations of small objects (Examples: making repairs to electronic equipment).
- Ability to move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
- Read and understand terminology of quarter section sewer maps.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees.
- Measure distances using a tape measure.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
- Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation in an on-the-job training setting.
- Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper English sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Understands and follows oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Enter data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device.
Additional Requirements:
- Possession of a Grade I Arizona Department of Health Services Wastewater Collections Certification at time of appointment.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential functions depending upon work location or assignment.
