COMMUNITY HEALTH/PREVENTION PROGRAM COORDINATOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop, implement, manage, and evaluate medical prevention programs and develop and implement new product curriculum in training Basic and Advanced Life Support personnel. Work includes scheduling, supervising, and authorizing payment for personnel working at Childhood Immunization sites; meet with key individuals at county, state, and national levels to enhance development of prevention programs; act as liaison to physicians, hospitals, and agencies for prehospital and medical research studies; manage grant research and applications, awards, and reports; and supervise Paramedic Training Coordinator. The Community Health/Prevention Program Coordinator works closely with other Fire Department staff and has close and frequent interaction with other health care facilities and governmental agencies. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of a Deputy Fire Chief.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates new product curriculums in Advanced and Basic Life Support;
- Schedules and supervises Childhood Immunization program;
- Develops, implements, and manages community health prevention programs;
- Develops training objectives for prevention program personnel;
- Manages expenditures from the "Prevention Services Trust Fund;"
- Manages relevant grant search and applications, awards, and reports;
- Communicates and interacts with individuals of various ethnic and economic backgrounds to maintain positive public image and establish cooperative working relationships;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Make skillful, controlled manipulation of small objects in order to use medical equipment.
- Coordinate the movement of more than one limb simultaneously to demonstrate emergency medical procedures.
- Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time to demonstrate emergency medical procedures.
- Enter and retrieve data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device.
- Delegate assignments appropriately.
- Supervise and evaluate personnel for conformance with standards.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Incumbent must be a registered nurse licensed to practice in the State of Arizona. By the end of the twelve-month probationary period, incumbents must be certified by the American Heart Association as Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess a valid Arizona driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee does have personal insurance coverage.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
A registered nurse with four years critical care and/or emergency department experience with some experience in pediatric nursing and in training prehospital personnel. Some supervisory experience is preferred. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
