The Police Officer assigned as a Flight Instructor is responsible for taking Air Support Unit Police Officers who are student pilots on training maneuvers and patrol flights over the Phoenix metropolitan area. The assignment requires current commercial certification in both rotorcraft and fixed wing aircraft with a certified flight instructor's rating in the rotorcraft. Flight Instructors must be prepared to and be capable of recovering the aircraft from any errors that could possibly be made by the student pilot.
Work is performed under general supervision received from a Police Sergeant or other higher ranking supervisor, and performance is reviewed through observation of results and oral and written reports.
